Grace & Honor

Funny, I have known this scripture since I was a kid, but as I was reading it today– God revealed its truth to me even more.  “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.”  Ephesians 2:8

I think that I have always looked at salvation very subjectively.  Salvation was — what I did to become saved and how it affected me and ME ME ME.  But today, I realize how God saw the situation.  She is so unperfect and has all this messed up stuff in her life BUT GOD only saw how much He loved me and that He could extend grace to me.  He could erase all my sin.  What He could do for me!!!

Do you ever think of salvation as something you deserve.  I think I saw it as being Jesus’ job to give us salvation.  He went through a lot of pain and suffering — but it was His job.  You have to do your job.  So if that is His job then it is something I deserve.

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

I have known that I was ‘called’ to work for God for so long — that is how I have looked at it “Work.”  Then God just becomes my boss which is a totally different relationship then His being my Father.  I forget and ‘don’t realize’ that God has bestowed upon me an ‘honor’ to serve Him the way that I do.  He has honored me because I definitely don’t deserve this or any other position in Him.

I think that I have been so busy ‘working’ and doing, doing, doing what God has called me to do that I forgot that I am not just in an army and taking orders.  The One ‘giving the orders’ loves me and honors me by asking me to do tasks for Him!!!!  This is the difference between being a “peon” and being a “princess” or an “ambassador.”  He has honored us by allowing us to be a part of the work He is doing.

Eph. 4:1   “I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, entreat you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called.”  Paul said this.  He was a prisoner because He realized how much God loved him and he chose to give his life back to God.  Because of the “HONOR” which God had bestowed upon Paul, he honored God with his life and his will.
